SPOKES PUBLIC MEETING - Thursday 12 January
More details below and in new SpokesWorker [7 Dec 05 issue]

City Chambers, High Street, Edinburgh
7.30pm [coffee from 6.45]

How will trams and bikes co-exist safely on Edinburgh streets? What
cycle facilities, if any, will there be on Princes Street, Leith Walk,
and elsewhere on the roads? Will trams carry bikes?

Speakers from...

Transport Initiatives Edinburgh, the tram promoters
Transdev, the tram operators
SDS, the design consultancy for the tram
Also questions and discussion from the floor.

Further information: Spokes supports the principle of the tram, which
will allow car restraint in many parts of the city, including the growth
areas of Granton and Leith Docks. A members' survey showed 95% support - though this dropped to 50% if either the offroad railway paths or
onroad facilities in Princes Street and other main routes were lost.

A series of workshops was held by TIE with Spokes and other cyclists'
groups on offroad issues in 2005, resulting in a mutually agreeable
solution.

TIE is to hold a further series of detailed workshops in the coming
months, about onroad issues. The public seminar allows everyone
interested to come along, ask questions, and put their suggestions for
later detailed consideration in the workshops.
