Cycle Training

Cycle Training in Scotland is currently being reviewed by the Scottish Road Safety Campaign a report is due in July. Lothian Safe Routes recently surveyed all schools in Edinburgh and found that 96% of primary school heads wanted Cycle Training for their pupils. (Details).

At present Lothian and Borders Police will not do any on-road training. It is likely that the Scottish Road Safety Campaign will recommend it. SPOKES and Lothian Safe Routes want Cycle Training to be much more widely available and more relevant to modern trafiic conditions. L&BP have stopped training children directly and rely on volunteers - usually parents some of whom neither drive nor cycle!
