The Lothian Cycle Campaign |
Taking the bike on the train has never been easier. ScotRail now welcome cyclists on all our services and taking the bike is free.
Whether it be for a day out or a longer break away, take the bike with you and make the most of ScotRail's extra new facilities for cyclists.
Avoid the traffic
Many stations are conveniently located near some great cycle routes, helping you to avoid the traffic and reach the best cycling in Scotland as easily as possible.
Where reservations are required
Below we outline where reservations are required, so please check before you travel.
Daytime routes requiring reservation
On the following services an advance reservation is compulsory.
158 Express trains carry 2 bikes per 2 coaches.

Caledonian Sleepers
As from early 2000 the carriage of bikes
on this service has been severely restricted. Tandems and tricycles are
no longer catered for and there is a maximum of 6 bikes allowed (compared
to the previous 20).Space must be reserved in advance.
Reservations
Reservations are available 8 weeks in
advance of travel (12 weeks for Sleepers) and up to 2 hours in advance
of train departure. Reservations for early morning services should be made
the previous evening. Cycle reservations can be made at principal staffed
stations or through ScotRail Telesales when buying your travel ticket on

Strathclyde
services
You can take your bike on any Strathclyde
Passenger Transport rail service without reservation subject to space being
available.

vehicles
Tandems, tricycles, cycle trailers, motorcycles,
mopeds, motorised cycles and scooters are not carried on any of our services
except where specified (see Sleepers above).
Engineering
Work
Cycles cannot be carried on bus services
replacing trains during periods of engineering work.
Freedom of Scotland Travelpass
Why not explore the whole of Scotland by rail. sea and cycle.
