Traffic count: highest ever Nov bike %, despite extra diverted cars

Our November traffic count, averaged over our 4 regular count points, found bikes forming 16.5% of all vehicles – our highest ever November percentage, just over last year’s 16.4%. Bikes comprised 22.9% of all citybound vehicles (the highest ever) and 8.2% southbound (down slightly from 8.9% last year).

Bikes ↑↑ Cars ↓↓ … again!!

The May 2016 Spokes traffic census found the highest ever number of bikes and the lowest ever count of private cars. During the 8-9am peak period a remarkable 22.7% of all vehicles heading for the city centre along bike-unfriendly Lothian Road were bikes, as was 26.1% of citybound Forrest Road traffic…

If our November cycle count day was wet, November 13 was wetter – and windier. Yet there were nearly 1500 bike rides past the Meadows public counter – including, at around 7pm, the 500,000th of 2015!!
