NEXT MEETING As there probably won't be any paperwork, we can have the meeting in someone's house. Rosemary would like to have our usual summer visit to her in Musselburgh, but can only manage Tues 24 July around the time we need our next meeting. If that doesn't suit enough people, Martyn has offered, and we'll try to go to Rosemary's the next time. PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP WHICH OF THESE July/Aug DATES SUIT... Tues 24 Wed 25 Thu 26 Mon 30 Tue 31 Weds 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------ BELOW: Outcomes of 14 June 2012 meeting [including some points from previous meeting, and some subsequent updates] ------------------------------------------------------------------ Many thanks to Mies for hosting and providing food. A. June 20 BIKE BREAKFAST 8-10 Now past! I've put a report on the website - June 22 news item. A great success, many thanks to Mies, Martyn and Judy for organising. Mies has noted a few points for future years (e.g need to ensure stallholders get breakfasts). Breakfast rides organised by Mike Smith a valuable addition which helped increase numbers of both punters and councillors. http://breakfastbikeride.org.uk/pwp/wordpress/ B. June 20 FESTIVAL SQUARE 11-2 Also successful, with the police reverting to their usual publicity and bike registration - none of the hassles over helmet issues which had seemed likely after the last StreetsAhead meeting. The police seem to change their intentions frequently, perhaps depending who is in charge or just how they are feeling! C. OTHER STALLS ** volunteers please contact Judy Dave to put stall details in next Spokesworker to advise members and in case anyone volunteers June 30 Farmers Mkt Sep 1 - cycling event in Livingston [date changed from June 24] Tobias Bauer cycling officer WLC asked if could do stall. Judy to investigate and Dave to email WL members if stall seems useful. New WL map should be out then, so a good opportunity. ?? July 1, Inner tube North Edinburgh paths postcode challenge ??Mela Aug 31 - Sep 2 ??September Fauldhouse - Dave to ask Neil Findlay if it is happening - another opportunity to publicise new WL map Sep 9 Pedal for Scotland D. SPOKES 2012 SUMMER COMPETITION ** Important - everyone to try and encourage entries from colleagues/friends, including encouraging people at stalls. Dave to print more entry forms for stalls. Also, new website article and downloadable entry form... http://www.spokes.org.uk/wordpress/2012/06/spokes-2012-competition/ Two entries received by June 19. Hopefully we will end up with the usual 25-40 or so! Prizes obtained as follows [telling donors that they will not be allocated till September]... Mies - Seabird, Jupiter, Kalpna, Peters Yard*, Bike Coop Dave - ScotRail Katherine - Camera Obscura Judy - Sustrans maps Diana - Bridge Inn Ratho*, Velo Ecosse *written or email confirmation from sponsor not yet arrived Outside judge - decided Katherine to ask Andy Johnson, Camera Obscura manager [later confirmed he will do this - we should fix date at our next meeting] E. HOW TO BE A CYCLING CHILD Factsheet for parents now at printers - ready for bike breakfast. Katherine to send Dave info for website. F. HELMET FLYER/FACTSHEET Just back from printer, having consulted with Resources Group people on content. Only got 250 printed, for use initially at June 20 stalls, as price per copy not very different to 500, due to a special offer. Thus if more copies needed we could get more printed later and also have the option to make further edits. Dave also did June 15 website article based on news coverage and feedback up to that point of the B113 article, and with the factsheet online downloadable. G. SHARED PATHS LEAFLET Tim Smith had contacted Judy suggesting new version of ped/cyclist shared paths leaflet. He has offered to do artwork. See original version and other similar and subsequent leaflets here... http://www.spokes.org.uk/wordpress/documents/advice/considerate-cycling Would be good to have a new version, even if initially only on website rather than printed form. Discussed briefly - generally the existing spokes one is too long, the bike stn one perhaps too short. Tim's version for WL map might be a good basis to work from. Think again at next meeting. H. MOTORIST/CYCLIST AWARENESS a. Proposed letter to police [see notes from previous Resources Group] - decided to await June 20 police stalls before finalising whether/what to write. Later - at Festival Sq event, Dave/Mies discussed - felt unproductive to complain now, given that the police stall contents now tied in with the agreement at the start of the campaign after all! Possibility of sending a positive letter, in part to support Quentin, who is an asset. b. Audrey Fyfe money - no volunteers had emerged. Possibility of using the money in the next phase of the StreetsAhead campaign, which is to target cyclist awareness and motorist awareness. Later - spoke with Chris Brace at Festival Square - he thinks this could work well - possibly a leaflet which could go to driving schools etc, organised by StreetsAhead campaign, leaflet cost paid in part from the Audrey Fyfe money. Need to have the AF money as a topic for next StreetsAhead meeting, as it has been hanging around a long time! c. Police had contacted CEC and us re. pavement cycling. Decided we don't have time to attend special meetings on this, but Mies would email Chris/Quentin with suggestions, and it could be discussed at the end of StreetsAhead meetings as a separate topic [not as part of the SA campaign, which is about cyclist safety]. Meeting felt that main target group is cyclists who are not in contact with cycling groups, hence Mies would suggest ideas like cinema advertising - can do cinema advertising in local areas.
