Purely for your amusement…
As far as we know Spokes, the Lothian Cycle Campaign, founded in 1977, was the first ‘Spokes’ in the UK. Indeed some (but not all) of those below even asked our permission to use the name.
Spokes is of course a local campaign group [though we also do a lot of campaigning at national (Scottish) level [click here for examples]. At national (UK) level we are affiliated to CycleNation, the federation of local cycle campaign groups. We don’t have any direct connections with the other Spokes’s.
Here are the other Spokes’s that we know of…
Spokes NHS Cycling Network
Spokes East Kent [founded 1994]
Spokes South West Herts
Spokeswomen “fighting for the female cyclist’s rightful place on the road and in the workshop”
b-spokes Edinburgh rickshaw hire
Ordinary Spokes [Canada, St John's City, community cyclist resource centre]
Brooklyn Spoke [US - no 's' in this Spokes, but this is a singular guy!]
Spokes Dunedin [New Zealand, Dunedin campaign group]
Spokes Canterbury [New Zealand, Canterbury & Christchurch campaign group]
