This page contains assorted ideas and information sent to Spokes after the project factsheet and product database were finalised. With project funding now ended we don’t have the resources to continually update the factsheet and database, so instead we are listing here any potentially useful updates or information received.
STORAGE IDEAS
Handlebar shortening – Many new bikes come with bars more than 60cm wide – these can be replaced or sawn down to 55cm or 50cm without affecting normal road use for most people (make sure you are happy with this). This can make the bike much easier to store in a narrow space at home or locked to a cycle stand.

OTHER STORAGE EQUIPMENT SUPPLIERS
Cycle-Works Ltd – specialist provider of cycle parking (supplied and installed the 2-tier racks now on platform 11 at Waverley). They supply a variety of racks, wall hooks, lockers, shelters and high density parking systems. The Velo-Safe locker is a high security steel locker designed to use space as efficiently as possible.
Cycle Hoop Ltd – a range of types of bike locker, indoor and outdoor, including the bike hanger an onstreet covered lockable container for up to 6 bikes, claimed to occupy only half a car-parking space. The bike hanger is being trialled onstreet by Lambeth council – possibly the first UK council-run onstreet bike-locker scheme. [Update – see above Edinburgh Council pilot project link for later info]
Bike Shel – innovative bike storage container for gardens, featuring very-easy access to all bikes, without having take out one in order to get at others. Available in sizes for between 2 and 6 bikes.
