Spokes 2012 Competition

This year’s annual Spokes summer competition – My Favourite Place by Bike – has been launched…

We want to know where you love to go, or be at, or pass through, with your bike.   It must be somewhere or something you can do, visit or experience in Edinburgh or the Lothians and with your bike.

It could be a view, a downhill swoop, a picnic spot, somewhere with a lovely smell, a cafe, something unusual, maybe something more abstract, or doubtless loads of other things – we’d like a few surprises!  Note that we want a favourite place, not a ride [although your favourite place might be on your favourite ride].

Prizes include a ScotRail 1st-class return for 2 between any 2 Scottish stations;  and prizes from Edinburgh Bicycle,  Kalpna Indian Vegetarian Restaurant, Camera Obscura & World of Illusions, Scottish Seabird Centre, Sustrans, Peter’s Yard, Velo Ecosse, Reiss Hairsalon and [to be confirmed] the Bridge Inn at Ratho.   See info sheet/ entry form [below] for more details of prizes and sponsors.

The competition closes on 9 September so you’ve plenty time to work up a really excellent entry and win a top prize.    But there again, don’t put it off and forget about it!!   Each person is allowed 2 entries, so why not do one entry now – and another later this summer to give yourself a chance to find somewhere/ something even more favourite!

Spokes may put some or all entries on our website, in our Bulletin, possibly in a special publication, or use them in other ways – so you could be famous too!!

For detailed rules, prizes and other information download the rules/instructions sheet [pdf 636k]. [There are Open Office and Word versions on our competitions page].   The sheet includes an entry form – or you can enter on your own blank A4.  Please do read the rules before entering.

Judging will be by Spokes Resources Group, assisted by outside expert Andy Johnson, Manager of Edinburgh’s Camera Obscura and World of Illusions [for which a family ticket is one of our competition prizes ].

For further fun and inspiration have a look at our downloads – competitions page which has the results of previous competitions, such as cycling jokes, cycling recipes, and how I’d spend £1m to get more people on bikes.  Prizewinners and hopefully prizewinning entries from the 2012 competition will also appear on that page once the results are announced.
