Spokes competition 2013

This year’s annual Spokes summer competition is Cycling with a PurposeIf you’ve got a camera and a thoughtful or quirky mind, you could win a great prize and some modest fame…

We want you to send us a photo and a caption on the theme of Cycling with a Purpose – ‘useful’ cycling such as shopping, getting to school or work, boosting your health or lifespan, carrying something, getting somewhere, hauling a sack of potatoes, or whatever.    We’d like lots of everyday useful entries, plus a few surprises!

Prizes include the following great selection.  The top winner gets to choose their prize, second chooses second, and so on.

  • ScotRail: Return 1st ticket for 2 between any 2 Scottish stns
  • Edin Bike Coop: Revolution Tune-up advanced tool-kit
  • Sustrans: Set of Sustrans Scotland maps
  • Camera Obscura & World of Illusions: Family day ticket
  • Kalpna Indian Veg restaurant: Lunch for 2
  • Peter’s Yard: Food hamper, voucher, keep-cup & baking book
  • Reiss Hairsalon: Hair cut and finish
  • Filmhouse: Tickets for 2
  • Cameo: Offpeak tickets for 2
  • Velo Ecosse: Bike service
  • Bike Smith: Bike service, value £20

See info sheet/ entry form [below] for more details of prizes and sponsors.

The competition closes on Friday 6 September.   Each person is allowed 2 entries, so why not do one entry now – and another later this summer to give yourself a chance to come up with a truly brilliant photo/caption idea.

Spokes may put some or all entries on our website, in our Bulletin, possibly in a special publication, or use them in other ways – by entering the competition you agree to this.

For detailed rules, prizes and other information download the rules/instructions sheet [pdf 813k]. [There are Open Office and Word versions on our competitions page].   The sheet includes an entry form.

Very important: please do read the rules before entering.   For example, if your photo includes a recognisable geographical location, it must be in Edinburgh or the Lothians.  And your caption must be no longer than 140 characters (including spaces etc).

Judging will be by Spokes Resources Group, assisted by an outside expert.  Members of Resources Group are allowed to enter but are not eligible for a prize.

For further fun and inspiration have a look at our competitions page which has the results of previous competitions, such as cycling jokes, cycling recipes, and how I’d spend £1m to get more people on bikes.  Prizewinners and hopefully prizewinning entries from the 2013 competition will also appear on that page once the results are announced.
